SAN ANDREAS FILM. The disaster film San Andreas imagines the possible consequences caused by the fault that is located in California.

[Mis à jour le 23 janvier 2022 à 20h50] The disaster film San Andreas is inspired by a real tectonic plate that runs along California. This geological fault regularly causes earthquakes of varying magnitudes in this region of the United States. The film carried by Dwayne Johnson imagines the terrible consequences if the estimated magnitude rose to more than 9, which has never been the case in this region.

The film San Andreas is inspired not only by probable geological events, but also by an actual event. On April 18, 1906, San Francisco was hit by a devastating earthquake linked to this fault. With a magnitude of 7.8, it caused deadly fires. Nearly 3,000 people died. It was this real event that inspired the screenwriters of the film. Theoretically, the San Andreas fault could lead to new earthquakes, even if, from a historical point of view, few earthquakes recorded a magnitude as large (9 and more) as that depicted in the feature film. The most recent is the earthquake of March 11, 2011, in Japan.

Synopsis – Announced for a very long time, the San Andreas Fault ended up becoming gaping, causing a monstrous earthquake in California. Accompanied by his wife with whom he is in the process of divorcing, Tom, a helicopter pilot, professional rescuer, undertakes a dangerous journey across the state. Both try to find and save their daughter, whom Tom has never been close to.

This 3D disaster film is directed by Brad Peyton, to whom we owe films such as “Invasion” in 2012. He is also the director of episodes of the TV series “Republic of Doyle”. In the cast, Dwayne Johnson, seen in “Hercules” in 2014 and who is showing, in 2015, “Fast & Furious 7” and Alexandra Daddario, who played in the TV series, “True Detective”. Australian singer, Kylie Minogue also makes an appearance. Note that Dwayne Johnson finds with this film, the director of “Journey to the Center of the Earth 2. The Mysterious Island” of which he was the star.

[content] => Array ( [encoded] =>

A year after the release of San Andreas, broadcast tonight on TF1, it was announced that the disaster film with Dwayne Johnson was going to have a sequel. Where is she today?

Big hit of 2015, San Andreas tells how a mountain rescue helicopter pilot tries to find and save his daughter after the opening of the San Andreas fault caused a magnitude 9 earthquake in California.

Faced with the good box office results (474 ??million dollars worldwide) of this disaster film, the New Line studio launched the development of a sequel in 2016. It was then reported that this new adventure of the hero embodied by Dwayne Johnson would take place on the Pacific Ring of Fire, another area particularly prone to earthquakes.

But this San Andreas 2 hasn’t really been talked about since this announcement… until 2021. Indeed, last July, actress Alexandra Daddario, who played Johnson’s daughter in the first film, has expressed his skepticism about the realization of this sequel.

During the Collider Ladies Night, she thus confirmed having had discussions about it a few years ago and that an early draft of the script was well written but added: ?As far as I know, that won’t happen.?

A “great idea”…

A few months later, however, during an interview for SiriusXM, Dwayne Johnson explained why the film still hasn’t been made: ?We have a great idea for San Andreas 2, at least I think it’s great. You know, honestly, the challenge we face is with my schedule.?

And the actor specifies that he has, until then, preferred to focus on films with the potential to eclipse all the others such as Red Notice (released on Netflix last November), Jungle Cruise (released in cinemas in the summer last) or even Black Adam (expected in theaters next July).

… who will have to wait!

San Andreas 2 is therefore not completely dead but it is clearly not Dwayne Johnson’s priority either, even if Warner would very much like it to see the light of day as recently assured Collider the president of the production of the firm created by the former wrestler, Seven Bucks Productions, Hiram Garcia.

?We really calculate what we want to tell, but our partner studios want a sequel to Journey to the Center of the Earth 2, San Andreas, Rampage? For all these films, the studios were asking for sequels, but we collectively said to ourselves: ‘ Look, we told a great version of the story. Now we want to go tell another story somewhere else’?, he thus declared.

And for now, it looks like Dwayne Johnson’s next shoot is…Red One, a Christmas movie for Amazon Prime Video.

Marilyn Has Black Eyes ? Comedy, Drama

This sentimental comedy tells the story of Diego and Clara who are opposites: Diego is withdrawn and angry, Clara is very extroverted and fearless. And yet, their paths will cross when they are entrusted with the management of a restaurant. While the collaboration promises to be difficult, Diego and Clara discover with surprise that they actually make a very good team. But things get complicated when feelings get involved… “Marilyn has black eyes” offers a pretty romance that is sure to please romantics at heart.

Home Team ? Comedy

It’s comedy week on Netflix! With ?Home Team?, the streaming giant is delighting American football fans. The film indeed invites you to discover the year of suspension of Sean Payton, the coach of the New Orleans Saints. For the record, Payton had been suspended for a year by the NFL following a resounding scandal. He then decides to return to his hometown to find his 12-year-old son. He tries to reconnect by coaching his boy’s football team, but it’s not so simple in the end. “Home Team” is a fresh and touching comedy, you will both smile and groan!

The Falls ? Drame

As the Coronavirus continues to rage, Netflix invites you to discover “The Falls”, a film which takes place in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic. The story follows a mother and her daughter who find themselves confined together for their greatest displeasure. They maintain a rather conflicting relationship, to which are added the personal difficulties of each. Cohabitation isn’t easy, but maybe it’s an opportunity to finally talk to each other with an open heart and try to reconnect? It’s a touching and captivating story that Netflix invites you to discover.

If series like The Money Heist Where Squid Game have made Netflix’s reputation, films are not left out on the streaming platform. For several years, the American giant has been producing prestigious feature films such as Roma d’Alfonso Cuaron ou The Irishman by Martin Scorsese in order to compete in the race for the Oscars, alongside the major Hollywood studios. But Netflix also knows how to satisfy fans of action films, such as with Red Notice, a blockbuster that has nothing to envy to Fast & Furious and others Mission Impossible, with an incredible trio of stars: Gal Gadot, Dwayne Johnson and Ryan Reynolds. Of course, you can catch up on all these movies on the streaming platform, if you haven’t seen them already. But you can also discover 5 other films, currently available on Netflix. Here is our selection for the weekend of January 22 and 23.

1 – Don’t Look Up

Directed by Adam McKay, this dramatic comedy stars Leonardo DiCaprio and Jennifer Lawrence as two astronomers who discover that a comet is about to hit Earth and could destroy it. While the film has been streaming since December 24 on Netflix, it has quickly become one of the most-watched in the history of the streaming platform. Since winning the Oscars for The Revenant, the actor had played in only one film, Once Upon a Time? in Hollywood by Quentin Tarantino. With a 5-star cast that also includes Meryl Streep and Jonah Hill, there’s no doubt, Don?t look up is the film event of the moment!

2- The vice of Munich

Directed by Christian Schwochow, The vice of Munich brings together all the ingredients of a good thriller. For two hours, the Netflix subscriber will be immersed in an anxiety-provoking atmosphere, that of 1938 in Germany, when Europe, on the brink of the abyss, puts its destiny in the hands of the Munich agreements. Hitler then prepares to invade Czechoslovakia and Chamberlain’s government wants to escape the tragic outcome that is looming. The characters try everything for everything. Hugh Legat, played by George MacKay, is a British civil servant, and Paul von Hartmann, played by Jannis Niewöhner, is a German diplomat. They both go to the German city to participate in the conference on which depends the fate of Czechoslovakia by extension, of the whole world. During the negotiations, the two old friends, who seek to avoid war, find themselves at the heart of a conspiracy game.

3 – Unforgivable

After leading us on a desperate and blind escape in the survival fantasy Bird Box, Sandra Bullock returns to Netflix in Unforgivable (The Unforgivable in OV). The American star plays Ruth Slater, a woman released from prison after serving a 20-year sentence for the murder of a police officer. She finds a society that refuses to forgive her for her past. Severely judged by those who once surrounded her, she places her only hope for redemption in a reunion with her younger sister, whom she was forced to leave behind… And the actress, who here gives the reply to Viola Davis (How to get away with murder, Ma Rainey’s Blues), Vincent D?Onofrio (Full Metal Jacket, New York Special Unit) or Jon Bernthal (Le Mans 66, The punisher), to upset us.

4 – A Star Is Born

Jackson Maine (Bradley Cooper) is a country musician on the decline. When he meets Ally (Lady Gaga, stunning), he falls under the spell of this singer with the golden voice and takes her under his wing. Yet madly in love with the young woman, Jack is not going to support the meteoric rise of his beauty. For his first film, Bradley Cooper transposes the story of the eponymous American classic from 1937, centered on the cinema, into the world of music. Successful bet for the actor who signs a vibrant and incredibly accurate melody. The raw talent of the two main performers leaves you speechless (and the soundtrack remains heady).

5 – Problems

On the way back from vacation, Victor, his wife Jeanne and their daughter Margaux decided to stop for a few days in a community set in the heart of nature. Quickly, a deadly epidemic brutally hits the region. Eric Judor signs a really relevant social satire, carried by an excellent interpretation.

Released this Wednesday, January 19 in our theaters, “Nightmare Alley” is the new feature film directed by Guillermo del Toro. But also the adaptation of the homonymous novel by William Lindsey Gresham, who had already known the honors of the cinema in 1947.

Nightmare Alley is Guillermo del Toro’s eleventh feature film. And the first since the 4 Oscars (including those for Best Film and Best Director) received by The Shape of Water in 2018. Co-written with Kim Morgan, the screenplay immerses us in the 1940s and behind the scenes of a carnival, where the charismatic Stanton Carlisle (Bradley Cooper) finds an adoptive family while he is going through a bad patch and seems to be hiding a dark secret.

It does not take long for the viewer to understand that Guillermo del Toro is like a fish in water within this fairground universe, he whose each opus resembles a declaration of love for monsters and creatures of all kinds. And we quickly understand what could have attracted him to this story… of which he is not the initiator. Because Nightmare Alley is adapted from the homonymous novel by William Lindsay Gresham in 1946. And transposed to the cinema the following year.

Released in October 1947 in the United States, and the following summer in France, the feature film was directed by Edmund Goulding (who had notably participated in the staging of A Night at the Marx Brothers Opera without being credited ). And it changed titles while crossing the Atlantic, to become Le Charlatan.

A way of announcing the color for this pure film noir where, while retaining its original name, Guillermo del Toro’s version, while remaining in the same genre and without falling into the supernatural, insists from the outset on its stylization and the nightmarish aspect of certain sequences.

Twentieth Century Fox

Tyrone Power and Joan Blondell in “The Charlatan”

Played by Bradley Cooper in the second version, Stanton Carlisle had the features of Tyrone Power in 1947. Either the star of the Sign of Zorro (1940), which would then turn in the adaptation of Witness for the prosecution directed by Billy Wilder, before dying of a heart attack on the set of Solomon and the Queen of Sheba in 1959.

Eager to move away from the roles of leaping and romantic heroes, it was he who had acquired the rights to the novel to break his image and carry the film on his shoulders, despite the skepticism of those around him. And it was after filming in Razor’s Edge under his direction that he reunited with Edmund Goulding, and his talents as a seducer fit perfectly with the power of fascination aroused by Stanton.

Played by Cate Blanchett, Rooney Mara, Toni Collette and Richard Jenkins respectively today, Lilith, Molly, Zeena and Ezra Grindle were played by Helen Walker, Coleen Gray, Joan Blondell and Taylor Holmes 75 years earlier.

Basically, the story remains the same in one film as in the other, so much so that one can easily compare the scenes that the two have in common. But there are several differences in form. Where Guillermo del Toro underlines from the outset the troubled side of Bradley Cooper before his arrival in the carnival, Tyrone Power is already part of it when we meet him and seems, a priori, more normal.

Either way, each adaptation of Nightmare Alley leans into the notion of the American dream and this idea of ??starting from nothing to get to the top. Before the fall, which each foreshadows in his own way: Edmund Goulding hides a clue in the first shots of his opus, and thus gives him the typical fatality of film noir. While Guillermo del Toro opts for the form of the tale with a more stylized approach. And cinephile.

Although in black and white, Le Charlatan is distinguished, like many films of the genre, by its work on shadows, a symbol of the moral in-between in which its characters navigate. An element that we find in the Nightmare Alley of 2021, with more colors. Like The Shape of Water, the feature film benefits from the work of cinematographer Dan Laustsen, who helps the filmmaker create an atmosphere on the edge of fantasy while the story has nothing supernatural about it.

We then think of Tod Browning’s terrifying Freaks, before the film changes scenery. Because the films also have in common the fact of being divided into two more or less equal halves: one in the carnival, the other in New York, where Stanton will use his talents to try to swindle a rich man. Much less referenced than the 2021 version, which seems almost fetishistic in its approach to film noir, Le Charlatan then adopts a more classic imagery, with its costumes, its buildings, its alleys from which a gangster can emerge. And his femme fatale.

Rarely cited among the classics of film noir (lengths and ellipses as well as a lack of scale in its staging are often criticized), Le Charlatan does not lack assets, starting with its end less agreed than it seems. The fact that Guillermo del Toro is interested in it indirectly, by seizing the novel that inspired him, can thus allow it to be (re)discovered, even re-evaluated.

Even if it is anchored in the 40s, its subject does not seem dated and its aesthetic qualities are worth a look, without even trying to make a comparison with the new Nightmare Alley. The only “problem”, is that it is currently only visible on DVD in France.

At the moment, many studios are forced to change the release dates of their films. But Matt Reeves, the director of The Batman, decided otherwise: his film will be released on time!

Paramount recently announced that the sequel to Mission Impossible would come out a year late. But director Matt Reeves made sure DC fans are well aware that The Batman would be released on March 4. Indeed, he recently shared a tweet announcing the imminent arrival of the film. The Covid virus still causing so many victims despite all the measures taken, many studios have decided to push back the release dates of their films. However, Warner Bros seems to think their marketing will be enough to make the movie work when it comes out in March. The Batman has appeared on multiple “most anticipated” movie lists of 2022!

Matt Reeves announces the imminent release of his film!

When fans learned that Robert Pattinson would be playing our favorite Batman, many thought it was ridiculous. Today, the film remains highly anticipated and could become one of the biggest hits of recent years for Warner Bros. Le casting comprend Colin Farrell, Paul Dano, Zoë Kravitz, Jeffrey Wright, Andy Serkis and the various teasers promise us one of the darkest and most destabilizing Batmans on the big screen. Christopher Nolan’s trilogy had changed the image we had of Batman after the disaster of batman and robin in 1997. The new generation will be able to have their own version of the vigilante of Gotham thanks to Pattinson.

The Batman has finished being postponed!

With the film being one of the most anticipated of the year, Warner Bros. has relied on significant and regular publicity over the past month. They organized events and shared many excerpts and interviews. Other movies like Mission Impossible from Paramount, haven’t started their publicity yet, so it’s easier for studios to push them back, that’s not the case for this new installment of our batman. In December, Spider-Man : No Way Home was hitting screens and Warner Bros. hopes DC fans will react as well to the release of The Batman. Robert Pattinson’s debut in a black cape and ear mask would guarantee a billion dollar take in normal times. Based on what we read online, it could well happen despite the current context!

Thomas Kruithof had already dabbled in political thrillers with talent in Shadow mechanics. He does it again with as much conviction in The promises, on screens Wednesday, January 26. Isabelle Huppert, as mayoress of a city of Seine-Saint-Denis, and Reda Kateb as chief of staff, are accomplices and on the go on the eve of an electoral campaign, in the best political film since The Exercise of the State.

Clémence, mayor in the 93, and Yazid, his chief of staff, are fighting to rehabilitate the city of Bernardins, undermined by insalubrity and slum landlords. A promise called into question at the end of his term and the proposal for a ministerial post. A questioning that will upset all his plans and his loyalty to his main collaborator.

If the context and the style are different, we spontaneously think of The Exercise of the State by Pierre Schoeller in 2011. The comparison with The promises does not disadvantage Thomas Kruithof’s film, quite the contrary. The scenario, the interpretation and the staging offer the same fine analysis of the political world, of ambitions sometimes to the detriment of commitments, with a welcome dramatic content in this period of electoral campaign.

Once again Isabelle Huppert identified completely with her role, as if she had been mayor all her life… Reda Kateb is no less convincing, in the costume of the first councilor invested. The scenario could have been in a more intimate register, but fortunately it does not have the awkwardness to fall into the predictable. No, the film is faithful to cross-cutting, contextual (the rehabilitation of a city), political and personal issues.

The unfolding of the action is exciting with its municipal meetings, its work appointments, its asides, secrets and revelations, lies and questioning, which keep you in suspense. Until a final suspense whose outcome falls at the last moment. Those promises are many. Towards the inhabitants of the city, of the municipality, of the party, and above all towards oneself. Thomas Kruithof manages to solve the equation in a film where ambition intersects with the sincerity of the subject and the treatment. Taking.

Everything had to be perfect and for this the actor had to repeatedly watch interviews with the fashion designer. The film focuses on the period from 1967 to 1976. This decade deals with the professional torments that the couturier experienced as well as his romantic relationships.

Just the end of the world (2016)
