Will Smith?s film career has been variable. While he has starred in many popular blockbusters, he?s also been at the helm of several massive flops that quickly get consigned to the dustbin of history. However, sometimes these forgotten flops get rediscovered on streaming services, and currently, Gemini Man is shooting up the Netflix charts. According to Flixpatrol, right now, the movie is in Netflix?s top 30 films.

Released in 2019, Gemini Man was directed by the legendary Ang Lee, and it was written by veteran screenwriters David Benioff, Billy Ray, and Darren Lemke. It also features an all-star cast as alongside Smith, there is also Mary Elizabeth Winstead, Clive Owen, and Benedict Wong. On paper, Gemini Man had everything going for it, making its flop status even more surprising.

In the movie, Will Smith plays Henry Brogan. A 51-year-old Marine Scout Sniper who forged an impressive career as an assassin for the Defense Intelligence Agency. However, after a job goes wrong, he decides to retire from the business. While adapting to civilian life, Henry learns that his last mission might not be all that it seemed. Soon, Henry finds himself being hunted by the government and by a foe who seems to be a younger version of himself, one who has all of his skills and abilities. However, this younger version doesn?t feel fear nor pain. Forcing Henry to get to the bottom of the mystery and fight as he has never fought before.

The film was hated by critics when it was first released. The film has a mere 26% critic score on Rotten Tomatoes. Many critics said that the film?s plot wasn?t well thought out and felt dated, which makes sense as Darren Lemke originally came up with the concept in 1997, but the film spent a long time in development hell before finally getting filmed. Many also criticized the film?s effects, especially the de-aging effect used to make Will Smith look younger. On top of this, the film was shot at 120fps. Which, in the eyes of many critics, only served to highlight how bad the effects looked. It also made the whole movie look overly bright and cheap, with many saying it looked like a cheap soap opera.

The film was also a disaster at the box office, only making $173.2 million worldwide, way below its production cost of $275 million. Meaning that Paramount was estimated to have lost $111.1 million on the film. This box office failure was partially blamed on the hype surrounding the release of the film Joker, which overshadowed every other movie coming out at the same time. However, other films including The Addams Family didn?t do as badly as Gemini Man did. Despite this, those who saw the film are generally more favorable to it. The film has an 83% audience score on Rotten Tomatoes, with many reviewers saying that the film, while generic, is a fun sci-fi action movie provided you don?t think about the plot too much.

Gemini Man is a fascinating film due to its strange production history. While the effects it used would become commonplace in the movie industry, their usage in this film simply wasn?t good enough to wow critics and audiences. While the film has an intriguing concept, Gemini Man is much better enjoyed as another Will Smith action movie rather than the sci-fi thriller it wants to be.

Ang Lee’s solo Hulk movie gave Bruce Banner a much better love story than Marvel Cinematic Universe has.

There are many criticisms of Ang Lee’s Hulk that hold water, but in fairness, it was a product of its time. Sure, the dialogue and pacing felt off, but there were decent enough performances from Eric Bana as Bruce Banner, Nick Nolte as Bruce’s deranged, dad, David, and Sam Elliott as Thunderbolt Ross. However, it just didn’t live up to potential, and there were things the Marvel Cinematic Universe corrected with Ed Norton and Mark Ruffalo. But even as polished as the MCU’s Hulk is, one thing Lee’s movie did a lot better was give the titular character a more nuanced, meaningful love story.

Sure, The Incredible Hulk was heartfelt at times, with Liv Tyler’s Betty Ross spending time with Bruce and trying to heal the monster inside. But things quickly change when they went on the lam and realized they can’t be physical. And, as is par the course with superhero films, Betty ends up being endangered in the war between Bruce and her dad.

Things didn’t get any better when the Avengers movies dropped Betty and pushed Bruce into a relationship with Black Widow that lacked emotional connection. There was some chemistry at first, but it got strange when Bruce abandoned her after she confessed her tragic past in the Red Room. And to make matters worse, when Bruce came back from space, there’s not much in the way of reconciliation. They greet each other in an awkward moment but end up having to refocus on the battle against Thanos.

That’s not the case with Lee’s Hulk movie, however, as Bana’s character comes off as more caring, compassionate and filled with raw emotion. Sure, he’s angry, but he’s still devoted to Betty because she doesn’t just represent romance — she embodies the concept of family. He saw Thunderbolt be abusive to her, and it reminded him of the abuse he and his mom endured from David. This failed parenting also informed his tragic mindset, to the point where a part of him felt like maybe he’d fail at being a parent if ever given the chance.

Lee’s Hulk holds a much deeper conversation than the MCU films, with it addressing abandonment and love outside of romance. It didn’t make Betty a romantic crutch, and the relationship doesn’t come off as the cliche will-they/won’t-they dance. Lee removed the superficial element of romance and built on the emotional maelstrom that made Hulk, well, Hulk.

Had Marvel Studios recalibrated its Bruce and Natasha to explore their familial tragedies and dive into the human condition, the relationship would’ve resonated better. Instead, the MCU treats its relationship as disposable, whereas Lee’s movie made them essential, whether it’s via friendship or having Betty be by Bruce’s side as something more.

Shelby Co. (ECWd) –

After numerous tips about the Mayor of Windsor, IL. trying to intimidate people with the use of a police badge and threat of arrest over the past couple of years, we finally have evidence that should trouble the people of Windsor, assuming laws still matter.

The law is clear and states when a person represents himself to be a peace officer it is considered a false personation.

720 ILCS 5/17-2 – (8) No person, firm, copartnership, or corporation (except corporations organized and doing business under the Pawners Societies Act) shall knowingly use a name that contains in it the words “Pawners’ Society”.
(b) False personation; public officials and employees. A person commits a false personation if he or she knowingly and falsely represents himself or herself to be any of the following:
(1) An attorney authorized to practice law for purposes of compensation or consideration. This paragraph (b)(1) does not apply to a person who unintentionally fails to pay attorney registration fees established by Supreme Court Rule.
(2) A public officer or a public employee or an official or employee of the federal government.
(2.3) A public officer, a public employee, or an official or employee of the federal government, and the false representation is made in furtherance of the commission of felony.
(2.7) A public officer or a public employee, and the false representation is for the purpose of effectuating identity theft as defined in Section 16-30 of this Code.
(3) A peace officer.
(4) A peace officer while carrying a deadly weapon.
(5) A peace officer in attempting or committing a felony.
(6) A peace officer in attempting or committing a forcible felony.

A violation of paragraph (b)(3) is a class 4 felony according to the statute.

“(4) A violation of paragraph (a)(4), (a)(5), (a)(6), (b)(1), (b)(2.3), (b)(2.7), (b)(3), (b)(8), or (b)(11) is a Class 4 felony.”

The following photos of Mayor Tull’s “police” credentials raise serious concerns. The badge, which has Tull’s name at the bottom was purchased at his insistence and paid for with taxpayer funds. The ID card has his photo and a disturbing claim on the back of the ID. Disturbing because the claim on the ID is not true.

“The bearer of this card is fully commissioned law enforcement officer with the Windsor Police Department, Windsor, IL and has statutory  powers of arrest and is authorized to carry a firearm  Should verification of these credentials be necessary please contact the Windsor Police Department by calling 217-459-2282”

I contacted Chief Ron Bateman of the Windsor Police Department and he confirmed Mayor Tull “was” in possession of the Badge and ID and that they have been recovered and are no longer in the Mayor’s Possession.

The big question, why were they EVER in his possession?

According to the Illinois Law Enforcement Training Standards Board, Thomas Tull is not a commissioned law enforcement officer.

We are awaiting a response from the Shelby County State’s Attorney for certain records that we understand requested a charging decision against the Mayor prior to Chief Bateman becoming the current Windsor Police Chief.  We suspect nothing was done on the matter which appears to be the norm for Shelby County when it comes to our laws.

We asked the Mayor several questions through the Clerk’s email and have yet to get a response.  If we do we will update the article with applicable updates.

In February 2021, a meme circulated on Facebook claiming that ?Communist China? owned DreamWorks:

Since the meme urged people to ?FACT CHECK THIS!?, we did, and it appears that these claims are made up out of whole cloth.

DreamWorks Animation LLC is an American animation studio best known for making movies such as ?Shrek? and ?How to Train Your Dragon.? It started as a division of the movie production company DreamWorks Pictures founded in 1994 by Steven Spielberg, Jeffrey Katzenberg, and David Geffen. In 2016, the company was acquired by NBCUniversal, a division of Comcast Corporation, in a deal worth about $3.8 billion.

Variety reported at the time:

NBCUniversal has set a deal to buy DreamWorks Animation for $3.8 billion in cash, giving the Comcast-owned media conglomerate added heft in its effort to compete with rivals like Disney, Time Warner and Viacom, all of which cater more directly to kid-and family audiences.

[?]

?DreamWorks will help us grow our film, television, theme parks and consumer products businesses for years to come,? said NBCUniversal CEO Steve Burke. ? We are fortunate to have Illumination founder Chris Meledandri to help guide the growth of the DreamWorks Animation business in the future.?

NBCUniversal and Comcast are both American companies.

We?re not entirely sure where the claim that ?China owns DreamWorks? originated, but it might be based on some confusion over the animation company Pearl Studios, which was formerly known as Oriental DreamWorks. While these companies do have a connection, they are two separate entities. Oriental DreamWorks was started as a joint Chinese-American venture in 2012 between Chinese investment companies and DreamWorks Animation. When Comcast acquired DreamWorks in 2016, they noted that DreamWorks Animation owned a 45% stake in Oriental Dreamworks:

DWA is also the majority owner of AwesomenessTV, a leading video destination for Generation Z and Millennial audiences, and also owns 45% of Oriental DreamWorks, a world-class animation studio in China that produces family entertainment for both Chinese and global audiences.

Two years after this deal in 2018, the Chinese investment firm CMC Capital Partners took full ownership of Oriental DreamWorks and relaunched it as Pearl Studio. Deadline reported:

A consortium led by Li Ruigang?s CMC Capital Partners has taken full ownership of Shanghai-based animation studio Oriental DreamWorks, relaunching it as Pearl Studio. Universal, which inherited 45% of the joint venture when parent Comcast acquired DreamWorks Animation in 2016, had been looking to offload its interests. Financial terms were not disclosed.

The newly-christened studio will be led by CEO Frank Zhu and Chief Creative Officer Peilin Chou. The senior executive team also includes Head of Studio Dagan Potter, Head of Ancillary Business PC Xu and Head of Operation Cindy Zhou.

Oriental DreamWorks, which launched in 2012, is the studio behind Kung Fu Panda 3 which was the first official U.S.-China animated co-production and one of the highest-grossing animated films ever when it released in the Middle Kingdom in 2016. In September last year, the studio unveiled a slate of key development projects.

A Chinese investment firm (not the Chinese government) owns an animation studio called Pearl Studio that originated as a Chinese-American joint venture called Oriental DreamWorks. In no way can this be construed as the Chinese Communist Party?s owning the American company DreamWorks.

In 2015, Marvel Comics proposed the most interesting Blade concept in decades – so why didn’t Blade’s daughter Fallon Grey ever appear?

Back in 2015, Marvel announced a new series that would introduce Fallon Grey, the daughter of Blade – and here’s why that story never happened. As little as fans may like to admit it, the sad truth is that Marvel Comics has largely failed Blade. Although the vampire hunter was introduced back in 1973, it wasn’t until he hit the big-screen in the ’90s that the comic book publisher really began to see his potential – and it’s telling that they swiftly redesigned the character to correspond to the cinematic version, who was very different to the traditional Blade. Director Bassam Tariq, who will helm the MCU relaunch of Blade, recently noted he doesn’t feel especially restricted by Blade’s comics canon – simply because none of Blade‘s runs have ever lasted long, or made much of an impression in the public consciousness. Blade’s comic book history really does feel as though it can be summed up with the phrase “missed opportunity.”

One of the worst of those missed opportunities was in 2015 when Marvel Comics announced probably the most interesting Blade idea in decades. As part of the “All-New All-Different” relaunch, Marvel announced a new series featuring the creative team of Tim Seeley and Logan Faerber, Blade the Hunter, in which Marvel’s greatest vampire hunter would team up with a high school student. Fallon was a 16-year-old who Seeley envisioned as the “anti-Peter-Parker,” a popular and well-liked girl who was shaken to learn Blade was actually her father, and who deeply resented being forced to join the family business. “They’ll be completely and totally antagonistic,” Seeley promised in an interview with CBR, “and the fun will be in seeing whether a guy like Blade can become a father, and whether a girl like Fallon can become a student and a daughter.” The idea immediately drew a lot of attention, and there were even numerous reports Marvel Studios was watching this play out with real interest.

And then it all went horribly wrong for Blade the Hunter. No doubt Seeley seemed a natural choice as writer for Marvel Comics; as he quipped, “it feels like those twelve years of writing teenage girls fighting monsters is finally being recognized. It’s like Marvel is saying, “Congratulations on your double PHD in ‘Adolescent Female Angst and Monster Stabbery.’ Have a job!” But the fan reaction online took a different direction to anything Marvel expected, with many outraged that – yet again – a white writer had been assigned a comic starring black characters, and introducing a prominent new one. Understanding the criticism, Seeley quit Blade the Hunter. “After a while, I felt like it was me screwing this up,” he explained months later. “I couldn?t help but feel like a black woman might write this stuff better than me and saved them from me. In the wake of ‘Black Panther’ launching so well, maybe ‘Blade’ is the book they find new talent on.

Blade Fallon Grey Design

Marvel never did assign any new talent to Blade the Hunter, though. They seem to have been discouraged by the backlash to the original proposal, and instead abandoned the most interesting idea in Blade comics since 1998. To be fair to the publisher, Fallon would have made her debut at a time when they were focusing on creating a new wave of legacy heroes, and Marvel began to shift away from that approach a couple of years later. Fallon Grey no longer fit with Marvel’s corporate direction, and so she was forgotten.

Marvel is currently attempting to increase Blade’s profile in the comics ahead of his MCU debut, even establishing Blade as a member of the Avengers; it’s not quite working, because the vampire nation arcs sit uncomfortably alongside tales of gods and monsters, demons and intergalactic empires. Hopefully that means they’ll pivot back to Blade the Hunter at some point in the future, and Fallon Grey will get to appear after all.

*This review contains spoilers for ?Candyman?*

?Candyman,? a reboot of the 1992 classic of the same name, traces the legend of a man who, if called five times in a mirror, will appear and kill you. The legend behind the infamous supernatural killer is that he was once a 19th century Black artist who was murdered by white men after falling in love with a white woman.

The film was directed by Nia DaCosta, who wrote alongside Jordan Peele and Win Rosenfeld. DaCosta made history Tuesday as the first Black woman to have a film hit number one in the American box office chart on opening weekend. The film grossed an astounding $22 million, which was higher than expected.

The modern depiction follows the life of Anthony, played by Yahya Abdul-Mateen II. Anthony is a painter living in Chicago who struggles to find his place in the art scene, a world he feels is dominated by white artists. To his girlfriend?s dismay, he becomes engrossed with the legend of Candyman to the point that it completely consumes his art and his life. Anthony goes on a trail to uncover the actual story behind the legend and discovers that the neighborhood he was born in, Cabrini-Green, is where the original Candyman lived. This discovery exposes his deeper connection to the legend and his part in Candyman?s history.

Anthony?s girlfriend, Brianna, who is played by Teyonah Parris, tries to stop his obsession and bury the legend.

Cabrini-Green, a housing project in Chicago, was near the setting of an actual murder that was used as inspiration for the original film series. The murder drew attention to the inequality and racial injustice occurring at that time.

Although the remake differs from the original, it focuses on the same principle that predominately minority communities and voices are often overlooked and forgotten. DaCosta said the movie attempts to paint that as being the deeper meaning behind the legend of Candyman. DaCosta said the film looks through a gentrification and urbanization lens at how that has impacted the Black community both then and now, which she drew from the original ?Candyman? movie.

?It?s all about my name is to be remembered, my story is to be remembered ? by this community in particular,? DaCosta said in an interview with the New York Times. ?Because the community doesn?t exist anymore and gentrification changed the demographics of the community.?

Going into the movie, I did not know what to expect, and I think that allowed me to view the movie from a unique perspective and accurately judge the movie based on solely what I saw on the screen.

I enjoyed the movie but I noticed that it strayed from Peele?s original format of psychological thrillers, which may be partially due to his other writing companions. I feel that it wasn?t scary nor did I leave the theater trying to interpret what I just watched. There weren?t any cliffhangers or unanswered questions ? the movie left no stone unturned. For some people, this may be a good thing. I, however, enjoy movies that leave endings up to interpretation, because it fosters intriguing discourse.

If you are looking for a movie that doesn?t contain jump scares and won?t leave you confounded once the credits roll, I would say ?Candyman? is perfect for you.

Stephen Amell, Canadian, just turned forty, 1.85 tall and with a body so worked up that it hurts to see him, has not managed to get his shirt back. His new character in the series Heels (Starzplay) is dedicated to wrestling and keeping the business of his clan alive, where this activity is practiced, while he faces a thousand and one family problems, so he is lightly dressed for most of the footage.

He’s accustomed. He lost it playing that comic book hero we knew as Arrow -Green arrow for connoisseurs- Batman and Superman’s fatigue partner in the comic book team of titans called The Justice League To which, often, the producers of the series undressed as much as they could, aware that “although it was not an essential component for success, it was part of the equation”, corroborates the actor.

And although the matter of becoming a sex symbol It got a bit on his nerves, “because my abdomen was sometimes the subject of the first question in some interviews, and I didn’t like it at all,” the truth is that he owes everything to the mysterious archer. ?I got this job when I was 30 and, up to that point, I had never made a character last more than a year for me. The series changed my life. I started it recently divorced and now I am married again and my daughter is already eight years old. I decided that I could start a family ?together with the model and actress Cassandra Jean- thanks to the security that the series gave me ?.

And although the last season he made it ?for money; because it would have been fiscally irresponsible not to do it, although I had a great time ?, it was difficult for him to get rid of the character and he suffered significant collateral damage. Lightening up his extraordinarily harsh training routine apparently led to physical problems and even a panic attack that he saw fit in the middle of a television interview.

The ‘Arrow’ series changed my life. I was 30 years old, I started it recently divorced and now I am married again and my daughter is already eight years old

He has not had to wait long for continuity. Heels, created by Michael Waldron, also responsible for the recent Loki for Disney, it has allowed him to glam up the skimpy world of wrestling a bit. He does it hand in hand with another tiarrón from the hosts of the series Vikings, Alexander Ludwig, and both represent two brothers united by an intense and tortuous bond, facing each other inside and outside the ring. ?An actor with whom I have got on wonderfully. He always has good ideas and never gets too caught up in them, so he’s very flexible in a scene, whether it’s an acid dialogue or when we have to get physical. He is like a big boy who has no complexes for doing this and we get a little out of hand, but always being careful, of course ?. A real testosterone battle on the assault of summer programming

Do you like that your roles have to do with your own personality?

In a way. Arrow applied logic to problems, although it had a very emotional side, and I am a great advocate of proactivity; of not waiting seated until it is time to react. My character in Heels He is, in addition to a local wrestling champion, a family man, respectful son, level-headed older brother, and I think a good guy in all respects. They tell me it’s like a “southern version” of myself. He is also stubborn, like me, and although he is reluctant to do so, when he decides, driven by circumstances, to take charge of the family business, he does so with all the consequences. Their decisions are not always correct or right, but I think that when someone is put in charge of something, it has value. As Lena Durham (creator of the series Girls), if there are many people behind a project it will seem that it does not belong to anyone.

Are you individualistic in this sense?

In decisions about a project, I prefer the creative vision of someone in particular and not that of a focus group that decides what we are going to do, but, in the end, as much as I like to interfere as much as possible in the work in which that I participate, I am nothing more than an actor who would like to be active all the time. I can’t stand to stop. I have not forgotten that while I was trying to make a place for myself in Hollywood because I wanted to succeed and be a famous actor, I was teaching spinning to be able to eat and pay the rent.

I have not forgotten that while I was looking for my place in Hollywood I was giving spinning classes to eat and pay the rent

Did you never regret what you wished for? Are you doing well about fame?

I spent time in the Maldives and a lot of people recognized me there. I was on the island of Mo’orea in French Polynesia and could barely move down the street because everyone seemed to know who I was. I almost went crazy in Italy and I am constantly recognized if I go down the street in the UK. Curiously, where it happened most unnoticed is in the United States. It is the effect of the globalism of television platforms. I do not take it badly. It’s what I fought for.

His life is inextricably linked to physical effort, apparently …

I am very motivated about this. Once you’ve established a physique on television, if you have to delve into that part again for another character, you have to stick with it or prepare for all kinds of criticism.

Are you very concerned about ‘what will they say’?

At this time of the rise of social networks, without a doubt. For almost a decade I played a character like Green Arrow who created enormous expectations in the public, and even today there are people who consider that I did not honor him enough and that the story was not what it should be. But it happened to Ben Affleck when he played Batman after Christian Bale and it will happen to the next one who wears the Iron Man armor. Some will love him and some will hate him; this is a moving train. The networks have this double face: to promote jobs they are an exceptional tool. I love how Ryan Reynolds used them to publicize Deadpool with those brief interventions, disguised as such, which went viral. On the other hand, I do not have too much conflict with the fact of showing or sharing what I do. I like it. For this character I have prepared myself thoroughly and also watched a lot of old matches from the 70s and 80s, to get some ideas to incorporate into my character so that the audience has fun and the fans boo if they want.

And in that maelstrom of physical preparation in which he lives, he became a professional wrestling professional in his personal life …

And when they asked me to do Heels, it was like a blessing. He couldn’t believe it when it happened, but not just because of this coincidence. Anyone can do a show about wrestling. We could put on screen 50 minutes of great high-quality match summaries that, if there were no more ingredients, would not have the desired impact. The important thing is the characters and the relationships between them. In fact, in the second chapter we did not step on the ring. Plus, wrestling is so much more interesting when you raise the hood and check out what’s underneath. It is a much more complex and demanding world than you might think. To be up to the task I had to prepare thoroughly because this is an even more physical character than Arrow. He’s my age, he’s already turned 40, and bodies change. I gained 11 kilos of muscle and didn’t overly worry about what my abs would look like. I wanted to look tough. The biggest struggle was keeping the weight off, so I was doing nothing but training, eating, and then studying and rolling. And heal my injuries, of course. I wrecked my back on the second day.

Wasn’t it quite a stressful process?

Nothing is being easy during the pandemic. We exercised four or five times a week in a gym built expressly for the team so that we weren’t training each on our own, which would increase the risk of having to stop the recording if someone got sick. We ate three large meals a day and, between meals, a sandwich and even a hamburger. I’m not proud of that, but there was no other.

With ‘Arrow’ we showed that superhero series could work as well as movies

Is it starting to be difficult to place the series in environments that are original?

Of course. Wrestling has legions of followers all over the world and people of very different ages like it, who argue about whether what is seen in the fighting is all theater or not, but, regardless of this, what is clear is that it is it is an area that ensures entertainment. The success of international competitions proves it. You show up, you pay money and these guys and girls put on an incredible show. It is a phenomenon that reaches many countries and that can make you as fanatic as football, baseball, hockey or Game of Thrones. Those shows are like television shows in which the ending is not written. And it is very surprising what some people are capable of in the ring.

Do you think you have a good nose for success?

I would like to think so. The truth is that when it was over Arrow, the future scared me a little. What we did was important: we managed to show that superhero series could work as well as movies. Thanks to her the doors of the cinema were opened to me when my name and the word film They almost never appeared together in the same sentence, but, more importantly, it gave me a voice to help in various social issues that interest me such as the fight against cancer or the dignity of mental illness. In any case, it is always best to cross your fingers …

From elegant superhero to fighter in trouble

Amell is perfectly aware that Arrow’s shadow will haunt him for a long time to come. Virtually unknown, this Toronto-born actor from a family with French, Scottish, English and German roots and a special fondness for politics since several of his ancestors have been mayors or parliamentarians, converted the character created for the role in 1941 with the characteristics of a modern Robin Hood in a complete success. The series portrayed him as a young, crazy and hedonistic millionaire who, after being trapped for years on an island due to a shipwreck, returns to his city with the determination to wipe murderers and corrupt off the map, taking advantage of his extraordinary physical preparation and his mastery of the bow, the result of those years of survival and learning, which appear shrouded in mystery. The series had eight installments, but taking advantage of the free time between seasons, he has starred in the romantic period drama ‘When calls the heart’, in which he played a member of the Canadian Mounted Police, along with Maggie Grace, from the saga ‘Twilight’ was about to take over the desired central role in the film adaptation of ‘Fifty Shades of Gray’. Until he reached success, Amell walked through various outreach serials, among which stand out ‘Vampiric Chronicles’, in which he played a perverse werewolf, ‘Without appointment’, where he wore the uniform of a self-sacrificing paramedic and ‘Hung’ in the one who changed this one for the signature suits he needed to face his role as a prostitute. In addition, he has to his credit a Gemini award – equivalent to the American Emmy, but awarded by the Canadian television industry – for his participation in the fantastic ‘Regénesis’. Despite such an impeccable service record, he is especially proud of his appearances in two films that served him as a luxury apprenticeship: the romantic ‘Closing the Circle’, opposite Shirley McLaine, in which he was directed by Sir Richard Attenborough and the policeman. ‘The Tracy fragments’, with Elliot Page. He has tried his popular pull in front of the modern version of the Ninja Turtles and in the science fiction thriller ‘Code 8’ with his cousin, the no less handsome Robbie Amell, of which they both just filmed the sequel.

After the pushes and pulls of the first two seasons, Succession – 86% will finally come back with the lawsuit between the Roys and things have never been in greater danger for the company. After a scandal, all of Logan’s children (Brian Cox) could end up as the dog with the two cakes.

Succession is one of the dramas that has captured the most critical attention since its debut in 2018. The third installment is one of the most anticipated shows of the second half of the year and we already have the official trailer in which we see in action the new actors who break into the new episodes: Adrien Brody and Alexander Skarsgård. In what appears to be a more heartfelt teaser, a move by Kendall jeopardizes the viability of the entire company following a revelation demanding the firing of his dad, who is determined to leave him with nothing.

Not many details are revealed, but we can see thanks to a protest that a case of sexual assault could jeopardize the actions of the Roy’s empire. The play would put pressure to remove Logan from command or at least leave him with the collapse of what he has built. What follows is a quick montage of the hectic confrontations that will take place between all the characters in preparation to save each one.

Brody will play an investor and activist named Josh Aaronson, who could be the key to keeping the company from falling apart amid attacks by members of the Roy family. The acclaimed actor will have a guest role in the new episodes, but the trailer doesn’t reveal much more about the weight of his foray.

We recommend: Succession: The rich also hate their families

While Alexander Skarsgård will play a technology entrepreneur named Lukas Matsson, who will become close to the youngest of the Roys, Roman (Kieran Culkin), or with whom he at least has a fun interaction during a party where he asks, “With respect”, when does she imagine that her dad is finally going to die.

The production of the new episodes was delayed by the pandemic, but we won’t have to wait much longer to see all these characters return. The series, with its two first installments, has also been a darling of the Emmy Awards for the best of television. Just last year alone he took home two of the top statues for Best Drama Series and Best Actor in a Drama Series for Jeremy Strong.

The third season of Succession – 100% will hit HBO and HBO Max on October 17th, just in time to compete with other major fall season premieres on the small screen and, of course, to qualify for next year’s awards. They still have time to catch up if they have not done so and they can also find all the episodes there.

The story of EVERYONE TALKS ABOUT JAMIE it is quite long. It started – curiously for a musical – from a 2011 BBC documentary called JAMIE: DRAG QUEEN AT 16 that portrayed, well, what the title says: the story of a 16-year-old teenager who dreamed of being a drag queen. In 2017, a theatrical work was released in England, written by Tom MacRae, which recovered that story in the form of a musical comedy. And now, a decade after the documentary – and after another long process that was modified and delayed by the sale of Fox to Disney, the pandemic and the recent decision to release the film on Amazon Prime – comes its film adaptation, directed by Jonathan Butterell.

The striking story of Jamie New (Max Harwood) – perhaps even more striking a decade ago – takes place in Sheffield, England, and takes as its axis the year in high school in which the boy decides to fulfill his dream and go on plan. drag queen to the school graduation party, the one by now mythologized prom night. His story seems a bit less complicated than others we have seen brought to the screen: when Jamie tells in class what his dream is, the boy has already come out of the closet, he has a mother who supports him and encourages him in all his decisions, and except for some exceptions (the classic bully and a somewhat conservative teacher) is quite beloved at school.

His great frustration goes through the relationship he has with his father. Wayne New (Ralph Ineson) is separated from Margaret (Sarah Lancashire) and wants nothing to do with Jamie. The mother hides the seriousness of the situation from her son a bit and makes excuses on Wayne’s behalf when the guy disappears from the map completely. And while Jamie knows that his father does not accept him, he is not aware of how radical and virulent his rejection is. But her mother – and her friend Ray, an excellent Shobna Gulati – give her all the support a teenager could need.

Jamie seems quite happy with his decision and, except for his father, there seem to be no major conflicts when it comes to moving forward with his desire to go to the party in full drag. His great friend Pritti Pasha (Lauren Patel) supports him in everything beyond their obvious external differences (the girl is Muslim and has her personal conflicts as well, which the film does not get into a lot), his mother helps him raise money and even choosing shoes with very high heels and all his fear seems to go through putting together a good character – and finding a good name – for his show. And although some foreseeable conflicts, and other new ones, will appear throughout the last half hour of the film ?which is clearly the weakest?, EVERYONE TALKS ABOUT JAMIE it is strikingly light and friendly, with a welcome low level of cruelty.

Like all musicals, much of its appeal goes through its songs, choreographies and, in the case of cinema, their staging. And, except for a few exceptions, they are all quite successful, drawing a kind of historical line that unites British pop music in its most popular formats. gay-friendly, with songs that take a bit of David Bowie, a bit of Elton John, a lot of epic ballad from the ’70s, 80s festive pop (Soft Cell, Pet Shop Boys, Erasure) and even contains a direct and heartfelt tribute to Freddie Mercury. In fact, one of the songs written especially for the film by McRae and Dan Gillespie Sells – leader of the group The Feeling – is performed by Holly Johnson, of the fleetingly (very) successful band Frankie Goes to Hollywood.

What works best in the film is its infectious enthusiasm. Despite some crises, Jamie is an optimistic, positive, open person, with some verbal lash always at hand to lash out at his stalker on duty. For two thirds of the film, her biggest problem is her shyness when approaching the place where she can buy clothes for her “transformation” and then choosing dresses and a name for your stage character. There will appear, in a brief but charming role, veteran Richard E. Grant, as a character who connects Jamie with the peculiarities, the pleasures but also the sufferings and struggles that many local legends of the world. drag (She is known as Loco Chanelle) and the LGBT + community had to go through tougher and more homophobic stages in that country.

In that sense, the forced ?and, we agree, very easily surmountable? conflicts that Jamie goes through after learning what his mother is hiding from him about his father, among other problems that arise at the last minute when ?the night in question approaches », There are practically left over, they are noted as positions to add dramatic content to a film that hardly needs them. There is a positive energy in almost everything else that this kind of exaggerated opposition only leads the protagonists to declaim underlined phrases of self-affirmation that are clearly redundant. It’s Jamie’s own exuberance and positivity – and the people who adore and support him – that makes it all clear without the need for speeches.

It is true, they will say, that very few stories of this type are as “comfortable” or little conflictive as Jamie’s. And they will surely be right. But within the optimistic spirit of this musical comedy, what works best is that celebratory side, it is what comes more naturally, less “scripted.” And Max Harwood is such an overwhelming and charismatic actor that drama is almost unnecessary. But, of course, what would a drag queen without a bit of dramatic overhead? Even with his somewhat obvious and overly Hollywood last half hour, EVERYONE TALKS ABOUT JAMIE he does not lose his adolescent spirit and vital energy.

Kit Harington has gone from starring in one of the most successful and important series of recent years to immersing himself fully in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. He will do it in the long-awaited ‘Eternals’, a film directed by Chloé Zhao. This film will be Harington’s first foray into superhero cinema, although this may not have been the case at first. The actor known for playing Jon Snow on the HBO series has given an interview to the Total Film medium in which he confirms that he could have played a superhero in the past, but rejected it.

Harington says the following words about it: “I won’t say who it was, but yes, there was another [película de superhéroes] that I rejected a while ago. It was a long time ago, because I didn’t think it was the right thing to do at the time. I think I did well. My head was deep in the world of Jon Snow. The actor thus prioritized his leading role in ‘Game of Thrones’, whose last seasons earned him two Emmy Award nominations and another Golden Globe nomination.

The actor goes on to say the following: “The world of comics and superheroes already called me once before and at that moment I did not like the role nor did I think it was time to do it. So I turned it down. And then this paper came [el de ‘Eternals’] And I felt it was the right thing for me. I liked that the character they were offering me was not necessarily an eternal one. He was human … I felt like I could do something with that, with all that human guilt that was dragging along. “ The actor concludes by making it clear that this “It was the character that attracted me, as well as being in the UCM”, saying it’s something “very exciting”.

The actor He plays a character in the film who goes by the name of Dane Whitman, the only human without powers in the entire cast, apparently. Harington already told a few days ago that the story of his character could continue beyond the events that we will see soon in this Marvel film, although we will have to wait for the film to be released to be able to confirm it.

Accompanied by a luxury cast

Along with Harington, the film has a spectacular cast, composed of Angelina Jolie as Thena, Richard Madden as Ikaris, Salma Hayek, Gemma Chan (‘Crazy Rich Asians’), Barry Keoghan (‘ The sacrifice of a sacred deer ‘), Kumail Nanjiani (‘ The great disease of love (The Big Sick) ‘) or Brian Tyree Henry (‘ Widows’). The film is set after the events that took place in ‘Avengers: Endgame’ and tells us the eternals, a group of beings with supernatural powers that have secretly inhabited the Earth for thousands of years, without intervening in the actions of beings humans. Suddenly they will run into a dangerous threat that they will have to face before it destroys the world.

The film will be released Only in cinemas without going through Disney + on November 5.
